Home & Garden Spas 1 Pump Topside Control Panel User Instructions And Programming
Spa Startup & Priming Procedure for Home and Garden Spas Topside Control Panel With 4 Buttons Pump, Light, Cool, Warm
1. Initial Setup After Filling
Fill the spa to the correct level through the filter assembly.
Remove the water hose.
Replace the filter, the filter basket assembly, and the filter cover.
Turn the GFCI breaker on. The spa will automatically begin diagnostic self-checks (a series of messages on the topside control is normal).
2. Understanding Priming Mode
Purpose: To remove air trapped in the plumbing lines after filling. The heater is disabled during this mode to prevent damage.
Duration: Starts automatically when the GFCI is powered on and lasts for approximately 6 minutes.
After Priming: The primary pump will run on low speed until the pre-set water temperature is reached.
3. Purging Air from the Pumps
When the "Run Pumps to Purge the Air" message appears:
Press "Pump" once to start the pump on low speed.
Press "Pump" a second time to switch to high speed.
Confirm water is flowing steadily from all jets without surging.
Press "Pump" a third time to turn the pump off.
Troubleshooting Pump Priming:
If jets don't work or water surges: Turn the pump off. Wait for the water to become completely still and repeat the process.
If it fails a second time: Turn the GFCI off and check the following:
Slice valves are locked in the UP position.
Diverter valves are centered for even water distribution.
Any non-functioning jets are rotated to the open position.
The filter basket and suction drain covers are clear of debris.
Third Attempt: Power the GFCI back on and repeat the priming process on HIGH SPEED when the message appears.
If it fails a third time: Call 844-894-6659 for assistance.
⚠️ Critical Safety Warning:
Do not turn on any pump that will not prime.
Never let a pump that fails to prime run for more than 2 minutes.
The heater engages after priming mode. An unprimed pump can cause the spa to overheat, resulting in serious damage.
Standard Operation & Settings
Operating the Pumps:
Press "Pump" once for Low speed.
Press "Pump" again for High speed.
Press "Pump" a third time to turn Off.
The pump will automatically shut off after 20 minutes of manual operation.
Note: The pump will automatically turn on for maintenance (e.g., heating, filtration, 30-minute system checks). During these cycles, pressing the pump button will not turn it off.
Ozonator: If equipped, it runs automatically whenever the pump is on low speed.
Operating the Lights:
Press "Light" once to turn on (cycles through colors).
Press "Light" again to turn off.
To select a single color: Repeatedly press the "Light" button to cycle through colors. When your desired color is displayed, stop pressing the button.
Lights turn off automatically after 2 hours.
Perimeter Lighting (if equipped): Works in tandem with the main light.
Programming & Advanced Settings
Pre-Programmed Factory Settings:
Mode: Standard Operating Mode
Temperature: 100° F (adjustable from 80° F to 104° F)
Filtration: Runs twice daily for two hours each time.
Changing the Temperature:
Press the "Cool" button once. The programmed temperature will flash.
While the display is flashing, press "Cool" to lower or "Warm" to raise the temperature.
After 3 seconds, the display will stop flashing and show the current water temperature, confirming the new setting is saved.
Tip: Changes are only saved if the display is flashing. If it's not, you are not in programming mode.
Setting the Filtration Cycle Length:
Filtration cycles run every 12 hours. To change how long they run:
Press the "Cool" button (the current temperature flashes).
Press the "Pump" button.
Press the "Cool" button repeatedly to cycle through the options (2, 4, 6, or 8 hours).
Press the "Jets" button to confirm your selection.
⚠️ Warning: Damage from overheating due to incorrect filtration settings is not covered under warranty.
Understanding Filtration Cycle Start Times:
The first cycle begins 6 minutes after power-on (after priming).
The start time is based on when you power on the spa.
Example: If you power on at 4:54 PM and choose a 2-hour cycle, filtration will run from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM. To have cycles from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, power on the spa at 2:54 PM.
Selecting an Operating Mode:
To change modes, press the "Cool" button and while the display is flashing, press the "Light" button. The current mode will flash. Press "Cool" followed by "Light" to cycle through the modes.
Standard Mode ("St"): The spa maintains your pre-set temperature constantly. It's always ready for use.
Economy Mode ("EC"): Heats water only during filtration cycles to save energy. The water may be too cool for immediate use.
⚠️ DO NOT USE if the ambient temperature is 40°F or lower.
Sleep Mode ("SL"): Heats water only during filtration cycles and only up to 20°F below your pre-set temperature. Maximizes energy savings when not in use for prolonged periods or in warm weather.
⚠️ DO NOT USE if the ambient temperature is 40°F or lower.
Safety & Important Notes
Freeze Protection:
This is a safety override feature.
If the water temperature drops to 44°F, the spa will turn on automatically.
It will run until the water reaches 46°F and then for an additional 4 minutes.
If the spa is in Sleep or Economy mode in cold weather (≤40°F), it may run in Freeze Protection mode continuously or for extended periods.
General Usage Tips:
Button Usage: Always wait 5 seconds between pressing different buttons to exit programming mode and prevent unintended changes.
Display Visibility: The topside display can be difficult to read in bright sunlight. Blocking the sun (e.g., with an umbrella) will increase visibility.
