How to Fix the Sundance Spa "Watchdog
How to Fix the Sundance Spa "Watchdog" Error
If your Sundance Spa control panel is displaying four dots (...) or a flashing Watchdog icon, your spa has entered a safety lockout mode. This is usually caused by one of three things: a dirty filter, a failed temperature sensor, or a dead circulation pump.
Common Causes of the Watchdog Lockout
- Air Lock: Usually happens right after a water change.
- Failed Circulation Pump: If the water isn't moving, the heater gets too hot, triggering the Watchdog.
- Bad Temperature Sensor: The "brain" thinks the water is 131°F and shuts down to prevent scalding.
Pro Tip: The "Hum" Test
Go to your spa's equipment bay. If you hear a faint humming noise but no water is moving in the footwell, your Sundance circulation pump is likely seized. Replacing this pump is the most common fix for a recurring Watchdog error.

- Turn off the main GFCI breaker for 30 seconds.
- Remove your filters (to rule out a flow restriction).
- Turn the breaker back on.
- If the dots return immediately, your sensor is bad. If they return after a few minutes, your pump is bad.
