Troubleshoot LifeSmart Hot Tub Spa Overheating
LifeSmart Hot Tub Overheating
Easy DIY Troubleshooting Guide
Hot tubs are meant to be relaxing, not stressful. If your LifeSmart spa is overheating, don’t worry—many times it’s caused by something simple.
First Things to Try
- Lower the Temperature Setting – Use the control panel to set the water to a cooler temperature.
- Drain and Refill a Little Water – Let out some hot water (keep the level above the filter housing) and add fresh, cooler water.
- Reset the Power – Unplug the power cord or turn the spa breaker off for 30 seconds, then back on. This often clears temporary issues.
Check Water Flow
- Clean the Filter – A clogged filter restricts flow and can cause overheating.
- Check the Circulation Pump – Make sure the pump is running so water moves evenly through the heater.
Check the Sensors
- Temperature Sensor (Thermistor) – If it fails, the spa may heat nonstop. Some models (like the LS100DX) show an “OH” error code.
- Check for Loose Wires – If comfortable, inspect for damage or disconnected wires on the sensor.
Check the Control System
- Try a Reset Again – Another power cycle may fix it.
- Circuit Board Relay – If the heater turns on immediately after power is restored, the relay may be stuck “on.” This usually requires a technician.
Advanced Causes
- Heat Recovery Control (if equipped) – On some models, this part can malfunction and regulate the heat incorrectly.

If these steps don’t solve the problem—or if you’re not comfortable checking electrical parts—contact a spa professional. They can safely test the board, relays, sensors, and pumps.
⚠️ Safety Tip: If the water temperature climbs above 104°F or will not cool down, turn the spa breaker off or unplug power cord immediately. Do not use the hot tub until the issue is fixed.
