Is My Hot Tub a 2014+ Model?
When you turn the power on, a 2014+ J-300 control panel briefly shows the software version number, then lights up "888" to test the display, then shows the water temperature. The 2-pump models (J-335 through J-385) have two jets buttons; the 1-pump models (J-315 and J-325) have one. [Add your team's tip on where to find the model and serial number label.]
Error Codes and Display Messages
| Display | What it means | Can I fix it? | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| FL1 | No water flow detected while the circulation pump is running. The heater shuts off. | Often yes: check the filter, water level, and skimmer first. | FL1 & FL2 guide |
| FL2 | The flow switch reports flow while the pump is off. The heater shuts off. | Usually needs a new flow switch. | FL1 & FL2 guide |
| SN1 | The high-limit sensor (which monitors water temperature inside the heater) has failed or been disconnected. The heater shuts off. | Needs a technician to test the sensor. | SN1 & SN2 guide |
| SN2 | The water temperature sensor has failed or been disconnected. The heater shuts off. | Needs a technician to test the sensor. | SN1 & SN2 guide |
| OH | The water has overheated to 116°F. Do not get in. The spa runs a pump for a few minutes to cool down. | Check the water with a thermometer, then call a technician if it keeps happening. | OH overheat guide |
| - - - (three dashes) | The safety "watchdog" detected 118°F or a serious fault and shut the whole system down. Do not get in. | Needs a technician. | Watchdog guide |
| COL | The water is 20°F or more below your set temperature, so the spa is heating automatically. | No action needed. This is normal after a refill. | |
| ICE | The water dropped below 55°F, so freeze protection is running the pumps and heater until it reaches 65°F. | No action needed. | Freeze protection guide |
| CF | Filter cleaning reminder. The display alternates between CF and the water temperature. | Yes: clean or replace the filters, then reset the timer. | Filter guide |
| blb | Time to replace the CLEARRAY UV bulb. The display alternates between blb and the water temperature, and the CLEARRAY light blinks. | Yes: replace the bulb (yearly) and reset the timer. | CLEARRAY guide |
| LOC | A lock mode is on. Some buttons or menus are disabled. | Yes: unlock it in the Menu settings. |
Common Problems
- Hot tub not heating, or not heating enough
- Heats sometimes, then stops (intermittent heating)
- Nothing works or the control panel is blank
- Circulation pump not running, or turning on and off
- No jets
- Weak or surging jets
- Jets pump runs, then shuts off by itself
- Jets pump hums but won't start
- Breaker or GFCI keeps tripping
- Lights won't turn on
- CLEARRAY not working
- Ozonator not working (optional equipment)
- Filter cycle doesn't start
Normal Behavior That Looks Like a Problem
Many service calls turn out to be features working as designed. Check these first:
- Jets turn off after 20 minutes. This saves energy. Press the jets button again for another 20 minutes.
- Lights turn off after 2 hours. This is automatic.
- The circulation pump stops on hot days. This is "summer logic": once the water is 95°F or warmer and 2°F above your set temperature, the circulation pump and CLEARRAY pause to avoid overheating.
- The circulation pump turns on and off repeatedly. Some 2014 spas built before mid-July 2014 have a software glitch that causes this. A replacement software chip fixes it. See the circulation pump guide.
- CLEARRAY or ozone shuts off when you use the jets. This is normal. They come back on about 5 minutes after the jets stop.
- The temperature only goes up to 104°F. That's the standard maximum for safety. The factory setting is 100°F.
Factory Settings Quick Reference
| Setting | J-335 to J-385 | J-315 and J-325 |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature range | 65°F to 104°F (default 100°F) | 65°F to 104°F (default 100°F) |
| Primary filtration default | 8 hours per day (PF2) | 24 hours per day (PF6) |
| Secondary filtration default | Off (SF0) | Off (SF0) |
| CLEARRAY UV bulb | Replace yearly | Replace yearly |
For J-315 and J-325 models, keep the 24-hour filtration setting. Running the circulation pump less than the factory recommends can cause water quality problems.
